Welcome to the year 2011. I hope you accomplished all you had hoped to last year. If not, it's a new year so we can all wipe the slate clean and start fresh.

First thing I want to start with is an interview with a wonderful author, Eliza March. Her erotic romances are provocative and funny, with HOT heroes and strong heroines.

Her newest release by Siren Publishing is called The Moon, The Madness and The Magic.



Why did you become a writer?

Eliza March- It became a compulsion.

Was it a dream of yours since you were younger or did the desire to write happen later in your life?

E.M.- No, it wasn't a dream. I was an avid reader, then one day I started imagining my own stories.

What do you love about being an author?

E.M.- The control over the story.

Is there anything you dislike?

E.M.- The business of writing.

How do you balance your personal and writing time?

E.M.- What personal time. Writing is personal. LOL

How do you write? Do your characters come to you first or the plot or the world of the story?

E.M.- The concept comes first, but I allow my characters to develop before I write the story. That way I don know what going to happen.

What genre(s) do you write?

E.M.- I am published in erotica, paranormal, fantasy and contemporary. I also write romantic suspense.

Why do you write the stories that you write?

E.M.- Sometimes they are an exercise, practice, a way of experimenting with words, ideas, and concepts. Mostly, I write for my own enjoyment.

Do you tend to base your characters on real people or are they totally from your imagination?

E.M.- I take traits from people I have read about, as well as people I've encountered, I guess. My characters aren't based on any particular people or characters I know, but a compilation of many.

Out of all the characters that you've written, who is your favorite and why?

E.M.- Ramon Delavega. I like his sexy, sense of humor, and I only just developing him, so I have all that new interest in him. He hot and teasing, seductive and mysterious. He going to have his own book as soon as I can bare to share.

What would you want readers to take away from your books?

E.M.- Escape and enjoy.

Do you have any advice for beginning writers in regards to writing a book?

E.M.- Join a writers group. Read and practice the craft.
If you could be anyone or anything that you wanted, who or what would you be?
Quentin Tarantino. I want to break all the rules.

Tell us about the latest release. Is it part of a series? Does it stand alone? What inspired you to write it?

E.M.- The Moon, The Madness, and The Magic is coming out this week. It was inspired as the second book in the Enchanted Mountain series by the location. I was in a strange mood when I started writing this book. I wanted to write in my characters voices and immerse the reader in the emotions of each. I hope I accomplished my goal. I e been working hard at improving each book as I go and happened to read he Fire In Fiction by Donald Maass as I edited and refined this story. I happy with the outcome.

What do you love about writing?

E.M.- I have a God complex.

Hate about it?

E.M.- Painting myself into a corner.

Do you have a guilty indulgence?

E.M.- Reading is my indulgence, but I pass it off as work research.

Something you do just for you.

E.M.- Sleep.

If you could spend a secluded weekend somewhere, where would you go and why?

E.M.- To St John Island, NS and stay on the beach. I've never been there.

Is there any character from one of your books who you would change places with?

E.M.- In my most recent book, The Moon, The Madness and The Magic, the heroine, Celeste is a shape-shifter, a fae succubus, and when she binds with her life mates (that would be two fantastic guys), she also acquires the ability to shift into a flying dragon and a Were wolf. I want to be her.

E.M.- Karen Marie Moning, JR Ward, Laurel K Hamilton, CL Wilson, Clive Cussler

Do you ever get up at 3 am just to write?

E.M.- Usually

New Author Spotlight

Hello again, my friends.

Today I am introducing a new author, Kathy Lane, whose book Blood Sworn:Bound By Magic is being released by Wild Rose Press in September.



-Pixie- Why did you become a writer? Was it a dream of yours since you were younger or did the desire to write happen later in your life?

-Kathy Lane- I think I started out writing as a child because I wanted to remember my dreams. I used to have the most vivid, action-packed adventures when I slept. I didn’t want to forget them. My love of writing probably also extended from my love of reading. I read everything I could get my hands on as a child. I once got an award in Middle School for reading the most books in a year. I wrote a lot of poetry in High School. Even had some of it published in the yearbook my senior year. Still, writing was more or less a hobby until early 2006. That’s when I had the first chapter of a story critiqued by a published author at a conference and she actually pulled me out of the breakfast buffet line the next morning and begged for more. I thought, huh, maybe I can do this. Maybe I can really write a book somebody besides myself would want to read. Writing that book became my focus and well, three manuscripts later, here I am. My dream is coming true.

-Pixie- What do you love about being an author? Is there anything you dislike?

-K.L.- I like the idea of creating a world other people can slip into for a time. I’ve read books where I’ve thought, “Oh, wow, this author really put a lot of thought into creating this world. I want more, I want to know what happens to this character over here next.” I would love to get that kind of a response from a reader. I also enjoy having control of the story, being able to decide what comes next. What I don’t like is ‘writer’s block’. Yuck! I absolutely hate having to slog through a difficult part of the story. Luckily, there’s usually a really great scene on the other side to keep me going.

-Pixie- How do you balance your personal and writing time?

-K.L.- I’m single, dating sporadically, and my grown sons are out on their own. When I come home from work, my time is (very unequally) divided between housework, reading, and writing. When I started my first book back in 2006, I would find myself writing until 2 or 3am. Not so much anymore. I try to devote at least four hours a day to writing, but it doesn’t always happen. I try not to stress over it unless I’m on a deadline, like now. My editor is breathing down my neck for book two in the Bloodsworn series, so I’m working like a mad woman. My cat is thinking about going on strike because I don’t pay enough attention to him.

-Pixie- How do you write? Do your characters come to you first or the plot or the world of the story?

-K.L.- Hummm, characters and world, I think. In my first two books (which are un-published) the plot definitely came later. I didn’t even have an outline, much less a synopsis. Yes, I’m a pantser—someone who writes by the seat of her pants. Even Bloodsworn started out with a ‘what if’ and not a full plot. I’ve since learned the value of a good synopsis. It certainly helps when you’re trying to meet a deadline. You have to be flexible, though, and listen to your characters.

Interviewing Virginia Henley (pt 1)

Hello to all my cyber friends out there.

Sorry, I have been absent so long but I have been gathering my resources to bring you amazing interviews from some of todays hottest writers!

We also have a contest for a free book Virginia Henley's current release Lord's Of Desire. Today we are starting with the timeless Virginia Henley! For those of you not familiar with Virginia here is a short bio to introduce her to you.

Virginia is a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author. Her work has been translated into fourteen languages. She is the recipient of more than a dozen writing awards, including the Romantic Times Lifetime Achievement Award, a Waldenbooks Bestselling Award, and a Maggie Award of Excellence from the Georgia Romance Writers.



Pixie- Virginia, I'm thrilled to have you with us today. Why did you become a writer? Was it a dream of yours since you were younger or did the desire to write happen later in life?

Virginia- It was just a daydream until I was 40. When my mother died, my father came to live with my husband and I and our two sons. The TV was always tuned to men's programs and I tuned them out and read to save my sanity. I read THE WOLF AND THE DOVE by: Kathleen E. Woodiwiss and immediately knew I could write historical romance books.

Pixie- What do you love about being an author? Is there anything you dislike?

V.H.- I love doing the research. History is my passion. I also enjoy working from my home and cherish the friends I have made in publishing.
The thing I dislike is the time it robs from my family.

Pixie- How do you balance your personal and writing time?

V.H. - It's not a true balance. Writing and the business end of things drastically cut into personal time. Being an author is really a life-style, not just a job. But each week I try to cram in time for shopping and when weather permits I walk on the beach. Instant messaging allows me to "talk" to my sons in Canada every night.

Pixie- How do you write? Do your characters come to you first or the plot or the world of the story?

V.H. - My stories are character driven, so they come first. For a plot, I read history until I dcome across a period that fascinates me. I never plot out the story ahead of time--I just sit down and write. I seem to become all my characters and they react how I would react, however I would react, and say whatever I would say, curse words and all.

Pixie- What genre do you write? Why do you write the stories that you write?

V.H. - I write historical romance, or historical fiction. Quite often, I write about real historical people. Soemtimes even my heroes and heroines are real people from history; sometimes only the minor characters are real people from history, such as kings and queens, their nobles. I only write stories set in England, Ireland, or Scotland, because I enjoy doing the research, and because this seems to be what my readers want.

Whatever happened to...

So whatever happened to men paying undivided attention to you? You know the one. The guy that carried your books in school, or offered to drive you home even though he lived in the opposite direction? Were they the one's you thought were too nice? Just friends?



What about now? Now that you have gone through all the 'bad' boys and found yourself still alone and unsatisfied? What happens when the one you thought was just as friend, your best friend in the whole world, finally confesses he has loved you forever and wants to whisk you away for an eternity?


Maybe that 'too nice' guy is really a bad boy between the sheets but your knight in shining armor the rest of the time. When all other men have let you down there he is waiting patiently after drying all your tears and helping you pick out your clothes for the never ending first date fiasco's. He is the one who knows how awful you look after crying with your bloodshot eyes and red, runny nose. Or how bitchy you are during PMS. And he still loves you and always thinks you're beautiful. Even after you've lost your twenty-something body and have four children running you ragged.
